Overview
#SUPTHESTORM is going to be a veteran-led paddleboarding movement designed to support mental wellbeing through connection, nature, and community. Founded by a Royal Navy veteran and ASI Level 1 SUP instructor Matthew of Waves and Wheels UK, the initiative will invite both Armed Forces veterans and everyday people to experience the transformative power of stand-up paddleboarding.
Mission
To create a welcoming, stigma-free space where individuals can reconnect with themselves and others through paddleboarding—building confidence, calm, and community one stroke at a time.
What I hope to Offer
- 🌊 Introductory SUP Lessons – Trauma-informed, beginner-friendly sessions for all abilities
- 🛶 Day Trips – Scenic paddles for experienced paddlers focused on camaraderie and reflection
- 🤝 Community Events – Meetups, storytelling circles, and peer support on and off the water
- 🎥 Social Engagement – Authentic content and outreach via the Waves and Wheels UK channel
Who It’s For
- Veterans seeking reconnection, purpose, and peer support
- Everyday People looking for stress relief, confidence, and community
- Anyone ready to ride the storm and find balance through movement and nature
Why It Matters
Mental health challenges often go unseen. #SUPTHESTORM offers a gentle, non-clinical way to heal, connect, and grow—especially for those who feel left behind by traditional support systems. Paddleboarding provides rhythm, reflection, and release.
Get Involved
I’m actively seeking partnerships with charities, NHS trusts, councils, and community organisations to expand access and impact. Whether through collaboration, funding, referrals, or shared resources, your support can help bring this movement to life.
